Omarosa Manigault Newman recently sat down with Savannah Guthrie for an interview on the Today show. Things got heated as the two exchanged discourse about Omarosa's time in the White House under the Trump administration. Continue reading for details.
Omarosa's affiliation with the Trump administration first made headlines back in July of 2016 when she announced her position as the Director of African-American Outreach for Trump's campaign. Post-election, Omarosa found herself in the limelight once again due to the news of her being named Assistant to the President, as well as Director of Communications for the Office of Public Liaison.
Omarosa and Donald Trump have been publicly linked together since season one of The Apprentice, which originally aired in 2004. Omarosa gained notoriety from the show due to her "by any means necessary" tactics.
Throughout Trump's campaign and in the early months of his presidency, Omarosa was extremely supportive of Donald Trump. During that time, she did not shy away as she declared her faith in his vision for the country, which oddly, is completely contrary to the tune she is whistling as of today.
Eyebrows began to raise back in December of 2017, when reports surfaced that Omarosa had been forcibly removed from the White House grounds. Shortly thereafter, the White House announced the resignation of Omarosa Manigault Newman, which would become effective on January 20, 2018. Since her time of departure from the Trump administration, Omarosa has become gradually more open and vocal about her time within Trump's inner circle.
On Monday, Omarosa sat down with NBC's Savannah Guthrie to discuss her new book Unhinged. During the interview, Omarosa gave viewers a taste of what to expect in her new tell-all book. She also gave viewers insight on some of the scandalous allegations she has thrown out about the Trump administration.
When asked if she believes whether or not President Trump lies often, she simply stated "Absolutely". Omarosa later expanded on the issue by saying, "First of all, he is known to be an entertainer, to exaggerate, but I never expected him to lie to the country. I thought that he would take his oath of office seriously. ...He absolutely has an issue with the truth, and sometimes he battles with reality".
The most explosive point of the interview came out of Guthrie addressing the topic of Omarosa being locked in the Situation Room of the White House against her will. When Guthrie questioned exactly how Omarosa went about acquiring audio recordings of conversations within one of the White House's most secure rooms, Omarosa redirected the conversation and dropped an astonishing bomb. Omarosa stunned viewers by recounting the events that occurred on the day of her dismissal. Manigault-Newman declared, "It's not acceptable for four men to take a woman into a room, lock the door, and tell her that she cannot leave. It also is unacceptable to not allow her to have her lawyer or her counsel. And the moment I said I'd like to leave and they said I couldn't go, it became false imprisonment".
She wrapped her up her statement by saying, "There is a lot of very corrupt things that are happening in the White House, and I am going to blow the whistle on a lot of this".
If you want the inside scoop, Omarosa's new book, Unhinged, is currently available for purchase. As of August 14, 2018, the Trump administration has taken legal action against Omarosa Manigault Newman. UHN will continue to follow this story as it develops.
