Beto Breaks it Down

Texas senatorial candidate Beto O'rourke.

If you haven't heard of Robert O'rourke, allow us to introduce him to you. Robert O'rourke, known widely by the mononym "Beto",  is a current senatorial candidate from El Paso, Texas.

Beto has been gaining a lot of attention in the last few months due to his growing popularity amongst Texas constituents. However, he has gained national attention recently due to a viral video of him expounding his opinion on the NFL protests.

Colin Kaepernick

As you may know, in 2016 Colin Kaepernick's silent protest took the nation by storm. Kaepernick's simple gesture created an American firestorm.  For the first time in a long time, the American people were divided with no signs of resolution in sight.

Donald Trump

President Trump only added fuel to the fire when he publicly made derogatory remarks about Kaepernick, as well as the other players involved in the protests. In 2017, during a speech in Alabama, Trump continued his crusade against the NFL protests. Trump stated, "wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b**** off the field right now.'"

Since then, kneeling during the anthem has become a hot button issue. With both sides passionately and sometimes ruthlessly defending their position. Due to the high relevance of this sensitive topic, it comes as no surprise that voters are seeking answers on where politicians stand on this issue.

Plenty of politicians have addressed this issue, but none of them have done it quite like Beto. Listen below as Beto breaks it down.

With his charisma, charm, intelligence, and eloquence, Beto has slowly but surely gained the respect and admiration of Texans and Americans alike. On November 6, 2018, Texans will gather at the polls to potentially make history by electing the first Democratic senator to represent the state in 25 years. Urban Houston Network will continue to follow and provide updates on the Texas Senatorial Race.
